Castaways Bass season to Begin

August 26, 2017

Hi Fisho's

September marks the start of the river bass season, we have given them a few months to do their spawning and the fish will now start to head back up into their summer locations.

Castaway will be fishing at the Macleay River plus the Maria and Wilson rivers and it promises to be another great season for our mighty bass, if your looking for some exceptional fun get a couple of mates together and book in and join the many who have been amazed at the great Mid North coast fishery we have. We also have some great new lures to play with. For the keen Dam fisho's remember trips to Glenbawn Dam which are fully catered for can be arranged.

With Fathers day just around the corner remember a great gift for dad is a gift voucher from Castaway for one of our many optioned charters which you can find on our charter rates page, remember this is the gift that keeps giving as dad will pick up many new ways to catch a feed of fresh fish.

AFTA trade show has come and gone for another year and there was some great new fishing gear to check out, Castaway managed to grab some early Samaki soft vibes in the new colours Midori and UV squid and already they have proven a winner , check out the slideshow Gavin got jew on both colours! the other stand out was from river to sea the Chasebaits  Squid and  Wiggle bomb plus the Crusty Crab these will all get a run on Castaway and I will give a full review from the water and hopefully some action footage of these very impressive lures.

Back on the Hastings we have had one of our better July/August saltwater seasons, the river has been giving up some great fish with Jewfish and some very reasonable Flatties being caught. Bream were OK this winter probably not as great as previous seasons but still got our clients onto healthy catches of this great little sportfish when we fished for them and now as it starts to heat up it will be great to get into them with surface lures. September does begin the changing of the guard with surface fishing becoming a very viable way to catch our bream, bass, whiting, trevally and even flatties. Another form of fishing we do over coming months will be rolling sub surface diving lures which is also extremely effective into the warmer months. Flathead will become more active as the prawns begin to show and the water temps start to rise although winter we still catch this popular target species, summer months can be crazy for them !

Jewfish every ones favourite target will definitely still be one of Castaways main targets and anyone wanting to learn the tricks of the game can book with me and i will do my best to get you onto the fish you dream of. Recently we have been putting clients onto some very nice Jewfish most have been landed however a few have won their freedom this is a fact of fishing but you do question some guys luck ? two good mates that come out regularly have done two trips in past couple of months and both have been cut off by good jewies well into the fight, what hurts is in between their two trips not a fish got off even a very lucky capture where the hook was in a gill plate.

Anyone who follows Castaways Facebook page will have seen the clips we have been putting up hopefully you guys are enjoying them, we are really trying to get the entertainment level up and while i am not always in the position to film i will continue to get these clips of captures and misfortunes where possible. I will be attempting to put a collection of these on our you tube channel in coming weeks.

cheers guys see ya on board
