Well as we approach summer, October has been a month of entertaining fishing with a host of different locations fished also with some great captures and some not so exciting losses for anglers venturing out on Castaway. During the October school holidays we had a fair few trips on the Macleay. Bass in the fresh and also for jewfish plus bream in the salt. We finally nailed some jewfish after a day where my regular client Scott Wilson had been dusted up on bream gear three times we went back next day and he managed three jewies so I was glad he turned the tables! On both trips he caught trevally, bream and flatties and when he came back for his Hastings trip managed a nice 80cm plus Flattie, well done mate. It was also a month for a few PBs and Ryan and Natasha got a few on the Macleay, first Nat got her PB Bass in the forties then on the last cast of the session Ryan got a 47 to crack his own PB. Later in the month they joined us again and we had the ever entertaining Casey onboard this trip as well. Nat got her first Jewfish on lure which was very impressive. They went on to get a great catch of bream and Casey also cracked a great flattie, that was a top day guys. Since early in month we have checked out the Macleay and Wilson river bass and on a recent trip managed 36 bass with James Jackson on board the fish were definitely not monsters mid - thirties but aggressive and hitting hard bodied divers with plenty of intent, great fun. The Hastings has been giving up a few jewfish for us however they have also been giving us grief. At the moment I am having a love/hate affair with them yes we have been getting them but the ones we have hooked and lost recently is frustrating but a part of the jewfish slash fishing equation if they were easy it wouldn’t be such a trophy species!
This month coming will see a start to our surface lure fishing season and already fisho’s are booking in for a surface session bream and whiting will be the targets and after a session on Castaway you will know how to catch these fish and there isn’t a more exciting way. Jewfish will stay on the target list especially with water temps climbing and bait moving through the river system. Flathead are always a great target to get you into lure fishing they are readily available and you always have the chance of hooking a big girl and this month we hope to see a few gracing the brag mat for pics before release.
In other news the Castaway 2016/17 shirts have arrived all pre orders have been contacted and we still have shirts available for those wanting one. For those who want an updated report of what is happening in Hastings region and also the rest of NSW east coast every week I do a report for Kaydo fishing worlds podcast radio show, the guys give away some great prizes and also have some entertaining reports check it out on your phone, tablet etc.
