July's hot fishing

August 6, 2016

Hi Fisho’s, With the local Hastings river running a banker after our recent deluge I’m thinking Mandy and myself have picked a great time to head off to Fraser Island and Hervey bay for a couple of weeks, hopefully the weather does not follow us and we have a solid hit out in the yaks. We will post up pics of the trip as we go on Castaway facebook page and if successful will do an article on the trip when returned.

September 1st is the start of Castaways Bass season booking days and with quite a few days already getting taken it may be time to get your mates organised for one of our trips, It should be a huge season with bigger fish getting caught each year We are really looking forward to seeing some big bass this season and hopefully it’s you that hook one!

I just recently returned from AFTA fishing trade show and have already put some new gear on board in the plastics range from NOEBY and they look great for the Hastings Jew, We also have got some great new bass lures on order from Strike pro called Butter fly ice jigs and these look and work a bit different to other jigs, it has me thinking they will be a big thing on our deeper bass. I will let you guys know when they arrive and we start using them.

July was a great month in the rivers here, cold in the mornings but the days were perfect and the fish on most days played the game. Once again the main fish catching lure was the Samaki Vibelicious however the thumper tail also had some special days with Jew and bream plus a few solid flatties coming to the net. The two new UV colours Motor oil Orange and Ginger beer Squid proved to be winners with jewfish being caught on both as well as plenty of the other usual suspects. The other product from Samaki we really started to use last month was the boom baits these plastics are super impressive. So far have mainly used the spider prawns, fishing them around rock walls and racks the results have been excellent and I can recommend these to any bream enthusiasts. Port Macquarie fisho’s who are wondering how to get their hands on this great range of product Ned Kellys bait and tackle are now the local stockist and have a range of Samakis products.

Ok I think I have all the gear packed for our trip so August 22nd will be our first day back on water at Castaway just in time to get that bass gear sorted, so if you want to spend some time on the water call and make a booking as from September the fishing really heats up. The slideshow above catches some of the action from July on Castaway Estuary Charters, cheers
